Telstra could turn into a classic dividend trap.
When I bought in 2011 the future of copper was well and truly in question which if I recall was the main reason for the fall in the price at the time ( as well as a general market downturn )
I simply did not believe that management would drive this fully laden truck into a wall.
They had years to plan for a copper free future but even grasped at the short term NBN bonus without doing anything to replace the golden goose even while they were busy plucking the bl ..... y thing.
I like plenty of analysts who where spruiking this as the ultimate dividend play only 6 months ago simply could not conceive that management were in total denial ( or were totally incompetent )
I won't waste my breath on any this subject which has been done to death on HC ( but Kodak immediately springs to mind ) although TLS death spiral may be a little slower with their life support as a mobile retailer.
Bit like the last Emperor of China who lived out his life as a humble assistant gardener. He lived but in very reduced circumstances
I simply cannot see a catalyst to take the share price ( and dividend ) forward without some dynamic and forward looking leadership.
