Mate, there are many problems with Hydrogen. The problem is, one of the ways is use electricity to split water into Hydrogen and Oxygen. This takes a tremendous amount of energy to do so. Without a baseload energy, this can't be done properly. So again, for me, nuclear is the answer. Also, with abundance of energy from it, things like fast trains, desal, coal/gas convertion into other useful chemical like diesel could be use. But the main point is we need a cheap/carbon emission free/baseload energy source to do that. That means nuclear. Solar definitely has its place, I was told by a colleague that in Japan, all the solar are setup/maintain by big corporations. Its not individual household that does it like in Australia. Hence, scale of economy, better management, maintenance can be done. TLS could still potentially play a role in this I feel, and its still the less politically convenient option for them.
