Absolutely correct. They've had numerous opportunities to leverage their massive retail customer base but instead of investing there they've:
1. Paid out dividends (going further into debt to do so)
2. "Invested" in businesses that have turned out to be little more than distractions from a P&L perspective (Sol period aside)
They have one of the largest retail customer bases in Australia and a physical Telstra Shop distribution network for crying out loud. They should be leveraging it but I don't think they've even tried.
As for new taxes I think we'll have all of: new Super Taxes, Land Tax replacing Stamp Duty and a GST home to 15% all within 5 years.
