Since its inception the NBN has become a political football with parties putting their spin on it. The way it has been handled has dramatically decreased it's value.
The NBN in its initial version was always going to be sold. In government terms it was 'off balance sheet' as an investment. The best advice was to have a fibre to the premises backbone. Unfortunately this was diluted for political purposes part way through it's construction.
When complete and cash flow positive the NBN was to be sold off to fund future infrastructure. Now at a great waste of taxpayer money the original version is going to be revisited.
The government is spinning the original as a expensive waste but under that all premises would have been done at once. In this version the NBN will be called back to each premises as they want NBN. The extra cost of recalling for each premise is inefficient.
