i think that “since inception” is a bit harsh. Telstra share price did do very well for some years after privatisation and paid a great dividend at that time.
Unfortunately telecommunications has been (and still is) ripe for disruption and Telstra Board and management haven’t been good enough to see it coming and we’re too late in responding effectively. They stuck with Sensis and Foxtel when they should have been diversifying. But it’s not just Telstra. I am a long term holder of shares like Woolworths, Cochlear, BHP, RIO and not to mention CBA and ANZ. They have all destroyed shareholder wealth at some point but then recovered with a change of leadership and strategy (the banks are still to recover). A change of leadership and strategy that’s what Telstra needs and it too will come good.
