(Gulp) Can anyone explain the difference between "depression" and "recession" on the personal index please?

Recessions, I've seen a few and coped okay. But the last depression saw people lined up on a thing called a "soup line" and had people eating the 1930's equivalent of Pal dog food and jatz crackers!

If I recall (roughly) from the text books 1930 saw some 20 to 30% of people out of work and not a few of them humping their bluey around Australia looking for work.

What will happen to our dole system and our other social security systems?
