What the hell else do you short sighted Greenies think is going to happen when the world needs green energy and minerals(to do what you want) and you stop any clean viable simple processes to obtain them. But to proceed into areas even more concerning!

I hope your thinking caps are recyclable!

Maybe Norway is giving Greenland a big nudge. So to get their act together!

Norway's Storting gives the green light to mining on the deep seabed

Critics believe that the extraction of minerals on the deep seabed has disastrous consequences for animal and plant life.

A majority in the Storting in Norway on Tuesday afternoon gave the green light to search for and extract sought-after minerals on the deep seabed.

The mining will take place in the Arctic Ocean between Norway and Greenland.

This is written by the Norwegian news agency NTB.

According to the Norwegian government, the demand for minerals that can be found on the seabed in Norwegian waters is increasing.

At the same time, the government believes that it is important that Norway becomes more self-sufficient in a time of great international tension.

Critics concerned about animal and plant life

Critics, on the other hand, point out that mining on the deep seabed can have disastrous consequences for animal and plant life.

The Labor Party and the Center Party, which make up the Norwegian government, agreed in December with the Progress Party and Høyre that Norway must extract minerals from the seabed.

The proposal then had to be put to a vote in the Storting.

Socialist Left Party, Red, Left, Green Party and Christian People's Party voted against the proposal.

The parties write in a comment to the bill that the Norwegian state lacks knowledge of the environmental conditions in 99 percent of the sea areas that are relevant for mining, writes NTB.

    NGO: It's terrible

Greenpeace Denmark informs Ritzau that a large number of environmental organizations - including Greenpeace - are demonstrating against mining outside the Storting in Oslo on Tuesday afternoon.

    - It is terrible to see that the Norwegian state is putting the sea's fantastic ecosystem at risk. The area is one of the last safe places for Arctic marine life, says Amanda Louise Helle, one of Greenpeace's activists.

    - We will do everything we can to stop this destructive industry before it begins, she says in a written comment.

The Norwegian government first floated the idea of maritime mining last June. At the time, it appeared that the government wanted to extract minerals from the Greenland Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea.

The new mining on the deep seabed between Norway and Greenland includes various minerals, but not oil or gas.

    oil or gas.
