EUR/AUD recently broke to 1.5418 - and to its lowest level since the Euro was introduced. The pair could now be targeting the all-time low, made in 2000, near the 1.50 figure. Most recently, EUR/AUD rose to a high above 2.10 during the height of the financial crisis. Since then, a stable global economy, higher interest rates in Australia, and the recent concern over European economies (the PIIGS) have caused the pair to break the July 2007 low at 1.5476. That break leaves little support until the all-time lows at 1.5002. Furthermore, EUR/AUD could become a carry play as the ECB is unlikely to raise rates while several European economies are struggling. The same cannot be said for the RBA, which has already raised rates twice and is likely to do so again by the middle of this year.
