I work, and live in the Pilbara. I work, and socialise with a lot of good aboriginal blokes, having said that, the welfare state of a lot of other aboriginals is that they refuse to help theselves even though they have multiple opportunities to.

They are a source of embarassment and anger to most of these hard working aboriginals, and they say that in no uncertain fashion.

I will say, the only real racism based on skin colour I have ever experienced first hand was earlier in my career. I have lived here for 20 years, and have a great job now, but it wasn't always the case, and trying to get one was hard work.

Many times I was told I could not, or need not apply for good positions with large companies that were advertised, because I was not Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

And I am of true "bastard" Australian heritage (ie we are all "bitzers" who came here after the first fleet with no real family tree), I consider myself to be as Australian as I could be, but obviously I have white skin. In the same way, I do feel for hardworking Aboriginals who are judged and stereotyped by the colour of their skin too.

I think until we stop looking at skin colour, and start taking everyone on there own merits, this society will never be equal - it will always be out of balance.

Political correctness is taking away any chance we have of being an equal opportunity society, and making some people resent others based on race, or colour.

We all deserve a fair go - black, white or any other colour.
