    The carbonaceous zone is that thickness. the lower portion of that consists of 5 distinct seams separated by sandstones and shales. These seams are of reasonable quality similar to the Witbank coal seams, but no coking coal.

    The upper portion consists of zones 11 (top) down to 6 and consists of layers of stone and coal, hence the term bar coded coal.

    two of these upper zones can be washed to recover a soft coking coal , swell index around 2, hard coking is 8 or 9.

    The yield of coking coal from these zones is about 10% if you are lucky. With the remaining coal yielding around 40 % of low grade thermal coal.
