I know it's Sunday I won't take long.

Because I spend a lot of time offshore I like to read the local rags wherever I go.

Exactly one year ago in one of them a couple of goldbugs wrote to the finance column preaching economic hell and collapse of the whole financial system. and the only salvation was gold.

The column correspondent quite rightly brushed them off as a couple of cranks and warned people of the dangers of:

1. Overexposure.
2. Gold and silver.

A couple of readers noted this and exactly one year later have written to that newspaper noting that gold is down 10%, and stockmarkets up between 8% and 25% and that cash in the bank was far superior to a useless metal that doesn't produce a dividend and has an opportunity cost.
