Amazin,
I am with Skul, I'm from a different mould than you.
I am not going to bother with any of your comment as by your own admission you have a small business that stands to gain from the establishment of NBN. I will be voting liberal as I hope that I won't have to subsidise small tech startups or service businesses through $43billion of tax dollars. Plus Telstra already has a load of optic fibre in the major australian cities... any worthwhile business would be able to relocate to an office that has access to this optic fibre network. Plus I doubt Australia will ever be big in research and innovation of software and technology we will just be the consumers. So if I had big tech ideas and good ones (and who knows you might) I would hop on the plane and head for Seattle or some of the other major tech hubs around the world.
My concerns go to the heart of our federal government and the high soverreign risk message it is sending to the world. I am a geologist and yes the super-tax on mining projects will without doubt reduce capital inflow from foreigners and lead to capital flowing offshore from australia. Many existing projects are already too far down the pipe line or operating and will have to put up with the new tax. I invest in small miners and will not be investing in ones exposed to this new tax. Fortunately the asx has many companies who have overseas projects and I myself have interests overseas which I will concentrate on if the tax becomes reality.
I voted for Rudd last time but I will not be voting for him at the next election. In fact I suspect that I will be circumspect about voting labor again for a very long time. It has taken me to this age (late 30's) to realise that basically there is a cirtain element in the community that see someone thats got this or that; they then feel jealous that they don't have this or that; they then decide I know I will just take it. It is no more complicated than that. It has happened to telstra and looks like happening to the miners...
What I am interested in is "how does the alp and accc reconcile their hostility towards telstra with Australia's National Competition Policy. This policy contains a clause on Competitive Neutrality. This clause would seem even more petinent to telstra given the government has only just finished selling it. A hyperlink is attached for those that are interested http://www.pc.gov.au/agcnco/competitiveneutrality. If you read the implementation reports recommendations then how do they fit with this competition policy?
Disclaimer: the above post is my opinion and is not to be used for making decisions. It is purely for entertainment purposes.
I hold telstra shares though don't list any sentiment as I believe telstra's value is the result of labors policy's and how they effect the company.
