Kain is meant to be the fall guy. He's there, to make the faithful feel faithful. Everyone once in a while, Kain is rewarded for this job, by selling his in the money options, and gets to upgrade a different part of his house.

don't be fooled by all the smoke and mirrors. there is no concrete reason for the gas/oil to be flowing by now, if the stuff really does exist in the ground.
