re: which animal kills most people. .. alan p. Too much in the thread to reply to everything of interest but this caught my interest:

rats with their fleas with their bateria that cause bubonic plague might have had a claim at one time (at least in Europe)

Apparently the brains at the time worked out that the fleas caused the plague and therefore killed all the dogs. Wrong Another case of the best of intentions, worst results. Centuries later our pollies have learnt nothing.
