Australia is very geologically stable and we can build them in areas that aren't heavily populated vs Japan which is on the rim of fire and packed to the gills with people.
Nuclear the way to go, we're like third world beggars at the moment, buring coal and oil when we should be moving to clean, almost limitless electricity production from nuclear power, to create hydrogen via electrolysis for transport fuel, and power for more desalination plants.
Solves the oil import crisis coming up. Solves our energy security. Solves our water problems. Solves our CO2 emissions. Solves our decline in science leadership. Solves our reliance on mining exports for creating jobs and wealth.
And we can use the leftover waste to build nuclear submarines and nuclear ballistic missiles - Solves our security problems and ensures NO-ONE in the world could ever dominate this country ever again.
