Some of us spent the afternoon yapping
about the election and some of us spent
it concocting pseudo-reasons why humans
pumping CO2 into the atmosphere in ever
increasing volumes since the industrial
revolution has nothing to do with global
warming and pseudo-reasons why global
warming has nothing to do with Climate
Change because Climate Change (if you
wish HARD enough) is not happening.

The more mature members of Hot
Copper do not dismiss lightly the
well-informed opinions top UN
climate scientists - nor do we
dismiss our own experience.

Since I came to Canberra we've
had a 1000-year drought and
a second hideous new climate
phenomenon - a Fire-Storm.

Dams that were designed to
drought-proof a city of 450,000
ran so close to empty that a
city of 350,000 had heavy
water restrictions imposed.

Some of the blame can be sheeted
home to a Labor-controlled ACT
Assembly that put protecting
Green preferences (by allowing
'environmental flows' from public
dams) but most of the blame
belongs to humans burning
fossil fuels making Canberra's
semi-arid climate more arid.

It's not rocket science to nut out
what the main government response
will be to deter water and coal power
usage - harsher water restrictions
and more expensive coal power -
hence my solar hot water and
solar power installations.

Hence today I connected our
new Tank Five to the main
household water storage
and irrigation system.

Many other Canberrans have
tossed in the towel and are
letting their component of a
garden city become a dreary
Coober Pedy by the Molonglo.

But not this little black duck!
