    brian, your point is very valid. We can't really claim to be making savings until we stop doing the things we do because they are convenient rather than neccessary.

    Apart from Australians being the highest per capita users of energy in the world, we are also the highest per capita users of domestic water. It's obvious that we don't need to look to high tech means or technological breakthroughs to brings savings to us, we simply need to change our lifestyles to something more in keeping with the rest of the world.

    Some time ago Steve Bracks congratulated Melburnians on making water savings of X litres of water per person per day. Both yself and my neighbours living in a rural area were appalled because what they claimed to be saving was still well in excess of what we normally used every day.
