Derek's job was to arrest and apprehend Floyd then let the justice system deal with him. As a police officer Derek had a lot of authority and power, with that comes the responsibility not to abuse that power. There are consequences for not doing so
You are excusing him for being judge, jury and executioner when that is not his job, far from it.
His conviction should be a reminder to all police officers to do their jobs, not abuse their power and not be judge, jury and executioner.
Yeah I think the $27m was too much of a pay out, yeah the 22 year sentence is a bit tough but Derek could have got a lower sentence had he pleaded guilty and shown some remorse
