There is an Aboriginal Industry.New Closing the Gap targets will 'not address' root causes of Indigenous disadvanatge
31/07/2020|8min31/07/2020|8minThe new Closing the Gap targets will do little to address Indigenous disadvantage because the agreement was negotiated with bureaucracies who think the problem is entrenched systematic racism, not the fact that not enough Aboriginal kids go to school, adults go to work, or families stay safe, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.Prime Minister Scott Morrison has committed to 16 new targets designed to improve indigenous disadvantage, in order to reset the failed Closing the Gap initiative. The targets will address critical areas such as early childhood, justice reform, education, life expectancy and housing. The agreement will give Indigenous Australians better involvement in decision making and measuring the progress and success of the targets.Ms Credlin said despite the fanfare, this new agreement would only benefit "rent seekers" looking to profit off the taxpayer. “This document is all about process, not outcomes, and it's my worry here is that it's the sort of response we've seen in the past from organisations entirely dependent on government funding, and always seeking more,” Ms Credlin said.“What can be guaranteed from this is that there will be more spending, more meetings and more statements, but there will be little, if any, meaningful change in the lives of the people who most need help.“I'd really like to hail this as a breakthrough and a game changer and a new beginning. But it's not.
