Scott, I disagree with you. Australia is based on British language, culture, traditions and law. These things are the basis of our wealth.
The original Australian colonies were set up under Letters Patent given to the colony governors. Australian Law is based on British common law to this day. Until recently our highest court of appeal was the English House of Lords.
When the UK went to war so did we, automatically as part of the Commonwealth. Our armed forces are based on British armed forces.
The traditions of our parliament, including the theatrical flourishes are a direct copy from England. Our monarch is the English King. Even our political parties are a copy of the British. Our universities mimic the British.
You may not like it but our society is based on British heritage.
