Good one blippo, I like the way you are thinking.

A few years ago when in Canada, I went whitewater rafting. Unlike the ones I had been to in Australia, this one was located in relatively flat country.

To get the rapid flow of water, a lock was used to hold back the water until the rafts were ready to go. When the gates were opened, a torrent of water was released to give a wild ride for the rafters.

The advantage of this type of operation, was that whitewater could be manufactured at will. This took rainfall out of the equation making whitewater rafting possible even in dry periods.

I can't remember exactly how much it cost, somewhere around $100 I think.

I think the linking of renewable utilities with themed water parks is a good one. It is possible that more income could be generated from tourism activities, than from generating power.

Pumped storage, water parks and electricity could all come together, if done right.

Any time you can get water to the top of a hill, you have the potential for power generation and fun, people pay good money for both.
