Actually they picked up $1.25m worth in the raise, approx 7.8m and dropped 1.8m Nov - Dec (also bought another 3m during the year)
Only they know the reason, I'd suggest transferring to employees/management as a bonus etc, they certainly wouldn't sell 1.8m to raise funds or sell that few because they had no confidence. (not that you were suggesting that).

One of the first things I look at in any company I invest in, is whether the Directors/management have bought shares with their own money. Having drillers buy is almost as good. We have both! I bet the Doc wished he could buy more at these prices, probably not allowed to, being privy to upcoming reserve upgrades etc.

maybe he worked out the plant refurb won't cost $30m?
