Questions are asked of the Directors/Management and if they get a reasonable response the auditor is happy, if unhappy, the DISCLAIMERS they build into their Audit Report covers their ass.

Lets not forget who is paying you, it is the company and the very people you are auditing, so if you get too pernicketty you will have no clients.
