I once sat next to a man on a flight who asked for no bacon. I asked him if that was because he was jewish? He replied yes, and then proceeded to show me the tattoo on his arm. He told me how he was a concentration camp survivor as a teenager and the reason he was short was because he had been malnourished at that time. He also went on to say he had had a very good life, married with children, and had taken up skiing at age 57 !!! He was such a pleasure to talk to, optimistic and generous. I will never forget him, or the lesson to us all that life is good and it's never too late for anything.
How much we miss when we are stuck looking at inflight entertainment....
