I'm not against short selling per se. It's a matter of how you go about it. If you have a short view on a stock, you should be able to short it, and if you are correct, then once the market catches up with you, you are able to profit from your position. It's a completely different thing when you publish your 'short theory' in order to move the market in the direction you think it should be. If you do this in the guise of a legitimate research report, and this report is readily available to Australian investors, then you come within the reach of Australia's securities laws regarding misleading and deceptive conduct, as the U.S. Ratings agencies have learned in the past couple of years. In this case, you better be 100% sure that you have a rational basis for your assertions.
