My research has uncovered that hydro power requires a constant base load which is not very flexible when it comes to switching on and off high energy loads. Hydro power is excellent for supplying domestic and commercial loads which only fluctuate between daytime and night time. To power a refinery the best solution would be to build a power station made up of numerous gas turbines which could have enough spinning reserves to be able to compensate for large power fluctuations and keep it totally seperate from the domestic and commercial grid.
