It doesn't really take a massive amount of sellers to drop the price, it just takes sentiment from buyers to think of maybe I'll get the metal at $100 less because it's falling and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
While gold has good fundamentals, these go out the window with herd mentality. Long gold is not a good place to be right now but it does have a bright future with all the money printing going on.
