    Scholes and Merton were also joint winners in '97. Then in '98 they were on the board of LTCM which came a cropper, betting the wrong. That also almost brought down the US Financial System, and IMO that is responsible for Greenspan becoming a turncoat, which is responsible for where we are today. There are numerous other examples of Nobel laureate becoming also rans.
