I use to quite like some of his work.

After the Asian financial crisis he defended Malaysia's introduction of currency/capital controls when all the other free market economists were deriding their introduction. In hindsight, it didn't end in tears for Malaysia as many suggested it would.

Haven't followed him much since, but don't agree with some of his recent commentary, although I wouldn't discount his influence.
