As I've been saying for months.... and of course, please correct me if you tink me wrong..... while voluntary testing is ok when there are hundreds of infections a day to be discovered, when the numbers are down less people are anxious and so testing declines rapidly. This leaves many who may have the virus but have not felt concerned and may be asymptomatic to travel as best they can.

Unaccounted for silent spreaders can maintain a reservoir of infected people in a community and numbers may be only accidentally found or turn up to Emergency Depts with mild symptoms and get passed off if reported infections are very low or in another part of the city.

A prime example of how a silent reservoir infection could be maintained for 2 or 3 months without coming to attention is young childrens' school and families.

Naturally with increased visits to extended family toward xmas as people socialise the virus reappears.

Without a vaccine, elimination of a virus can only be achieved with disciplined and thorough testing across the breadth of the community.
