as a ploy to get people to sign up to the spp, it doesn't seem to rate, in that you get the loyalty options whatever you do...they really are just that, thanks-for-hanging-around options. As an incentive, tying them to the spp take up would have been far smarter, and not give any for your existing holding, just for your new take-up....
