Victorian CFMEU staff test positive to COVID-19 after violent protests outside building
    Posted 23m ago23 minutes ago,

The Victorian CFMEU head office in Melbourne has been deemed a tier 1 exposure site, a week after violent protests erupted outside the building.

The union said four positive cases had been recorded to date and a number of staff and officials had been forced into two weeks' quarantine.

A violent demonstration outside the CFMEU Victorian office in Melbourne's CBD last Monday kicked off a week of protests, which drew in a mix of construction workers, anti-lockdown activists and far-right agitators.

"This outbreak caused by the disgusting behaviour of selfish and reckless people with no regard to the wellbeing of the thousands of construction workers or their families will not deter our commitment to getting construction back open and all our members back to work," construction secretary John Setka said in a statement.

The building at 540 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne CBD has not yet been listed on the Department of Health website.

The union did not specify the exposure window, and health officials declined to comment when questioned at Wednesday morning's press conference.

    More to come.
