    excellent historical analysis Rickets.

the issue I have with CPI is the data is contaminated by RBA interest rates and rental rates which act as a circular driver of price rises. and insurance rates aren't pegged to inflation but to climate change damages payouts.

another figure the RBA relies on is consumption spending. many analyses hav shown that retirees are spending more than any other cohort (>65s). this is an artefact created by self-funded and other superannuation sums enabling retirees to avoid needing the pension and having enough to enjoy retirement. and consumption is a measure of money spent. with prices constantly rising naturally the amount of money spent will rise even if there's no increased in items purchased.

with these taken into account the Lab economic and fiscal management has been pretty sound imo.

entirely contrary to the BS LibNats who spent money like it was from a real cornucopia and always denied their wastefulness.
