Education doesn't need more money to make it better.
Just needs LESS in the curriculum. You could easily get rid of half the rubbish they teach, free up time for english and maths, science, history and geography. Oh and some IT too, as we have to keep with the times.
I have children at Primary school. Honestly, half the stuff they learn is totally pointless, and yet they still struggle with their times tables.
Agree re long division. My poor daughter was trying to do it some really long and complicated way to find the 'remainder' when you can find it straight away the old fashioned way.
Reading, goodness they have to totally dissect and over analyse every book they read - no wonder the children don't LOVE reading. It has to be dissected chapter by chapter.
The teachers are young, incredibly enthusiastic and well meaning, but agreed, many can't spell to save themselves. I've even spotted them teaching wrong spelling to my chldren! Heck, I've even spotted spelling mistakes in Scholastic books from the library - lava from a volcano was spelt 'larva' the whole way through the book.
I've told my children they don't have to bother with the homework they are given, complete waste of time if you ask me. And before anyone thinks I am a dreadful parent my daughter has just won a General Excellence Scholarship to secondary school.
Ha ha, I used to line them up before school and make them repeat after me "Who knows best? Mummy knows best" - in jest, but kind of not in jest, if you get my meaning!
