Are Gunns the only one applying this practice in OZ?

I understand where you are coming from and I would support the view that there needs policing. I have leased my land to my neighbor. At the time he said he could only pay me $1000 per quarter because of the cost to renew the pastures each year by way of fertilizer and reseeding. Guess what - Between my wife , kids and I we are here virtually all the time he has never done either. So I now sit with a problem do I become a bad neighbor and insist on it. Yes I have to insist on it otherwise a whole chain of events will occur including soil erosion and poor pastures over time.

Its not only in forestry. I think you are correct but we need to ensure that all companies abide by the same rules and if necessary we need to protect our OZ companies by imposing a tariff to cover that bad practice.

I have researched your point and the best practice seems to be FSC certification. It appears that neither Gunns nor Forestry Tasmania have FSC certification and as such that means I am not happy with their record. However again you will not change Gunns when 54% of the supply comes from government owned Forestry Tasmania who doesn't comply as well.

This does present a unique opportunity to talk and as such this is an issue I am now going to research and try to be party to change. So thank you - I automatically assumed that as OZ was so into bio security it was also FSC certified and required by all parties. There is a conundrum however can you just say dont log these forests can Tasmania afford not to get a return. I always believe that people need to find better solutions and maybe it should be via a question at the AGM "why does Gunns not want to operate within FSC approvals and certification?"

Once you own 100 shares you can go and ask that question and the more calmly it gets asked and maybe Forestry Tasmania is the starting point if they change then Gunns will as well.

Its easier to change government than change company policy IMO.

Strength to your cause - I think Forestry Tasmania should change.
