Because passionate believers in giant sky daddy's tend to be morons (Christian, Muslim, Hindu alike) or exist in an environment that does not promote critical thinking (whether that be family or country).
If you foster division (ethnic, religious), people will be divided by their differences as opposed to focusing on just being good people.
The problem with Multiculturalism is, it has division as its central tenet and I just love it when you can actually corral a supporter (i.e. leftie) into being forced to tell you why/how we are better off with Multiculturalism.
They tend to run out of reasons why we are better off with it almost immediately and tend to tail off with "we have more food options".
And almost inevitably, they live in an area where their exposure to Multiculturism is limited to their most recent Uber ride/delivery (i.e. Zali Steggall, Allegra Spender, Kate Chaney).
