Both the US and UK governments have now come out strongly supporting the development of unconventional gas assets.

I also notice that Kevin Rudd on Wednesday night used the colloquialism "cooking with gas" to connote getting the economy moving. Now I know it is a common turn of phrase but he used it in the context of the mining boom being over and the need to look to replacement drivers. He happened to also use the phrase a few weeks ago when he was in Casino, which is bang in the middle of the Clarence Moreton csg basin.

I'd like to think that his repeated use of "cooking with gas" is about as coincidental as his wearing a blue tie on Wednesday night and that he sees the intransigence of the NSW Liberals and Nationals to the development of a csg industry there as something that he can exploit. I mean the stark reality is that the NSW Liberals are aiding and abetting the Greens in blocking the csg sector in NSW.

As a Qlder Rudd would be very aware that without the csg industry and what is happening in Gladstone the Qld state economy would be a wreck and he could ride on the back of Obama's and Cameron's support for unconventional gas to argue that Fat Barry needs to go with gas.

Now I don't care how he got the PM's job back or how long he stays as PM and am not interested in who forms the next federal government. But if in the meantime Rudd wedges Fat Barry into action on csg then I'm all for it.
