well i can assure you it is true, and it's not such a big deal. it's like autopilot on a commercial aircraft. or like self driving vehicles, which are also being tested.

neither of these things impact the flow of traffic around them, they merely respond to data sets and control the trim or velocity of the vehicle accordingly.

they don't do anything that a pilot cannot do, and they don't make pilots redundant. all they do is give the experienced pilot (who still has to cut their teeth the old fashioned way) less things to do and think about once employed by the big firms. this in turn also allows for heavier traffic.

similarly, algorithms just slot into the white noise of market data, generating extra liquidity and a fairly uniform and modest return, which is all that people with millions of dollars invested are looking for.

it doesn't take the unpredictability out of the market, it just provides its clients with less volatile exposure.
