Citigroup has asked the corporate regulators to investigate a sophisticated hoax email that used spoof email addresses to trick at least one online news outlet into believing the US bank had acquired a controlling stake in Telstra.
News desks around the country - including AAP, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian - received emails purportedly from their own correspondents last night that contained a supposed breaking news story
