Trump will dump Musk if it serves Trumps best interest. He will be able to influence a lot, but ultimately will be working with Congress to ensure deals meet a cross-section of Republicans and not just rich mates. Overly pandering to Musk would be something easily picked up by the Democrats and used to win back middle-America (thought they seem incapable of winning so maybe not).
Trump will use tariffs and if they impact Elon, he will simply offset the tariffs with discounts on American made versions. The US is in a cold-war against China and has been for over a decade, its an economic war where they're seeking to ensure China doesn't surpass their power. They did the same to Japan in the 80s.
