Nice update by WHO. IMO, there has been some misinformation given by governments regarding the risks of swine flu. In the early outbreak in Mexico it was reported that healthy people were dying due to this virus with deaths passing 200 quickly. Then, Mexico changed its numbers of deaths to pretty much 0 - as they were not confirmed. Apparently they cremated a lot of the bodies so they cannot confirm if there death was from swine flu or not. Even so, the numbers of confirmed deaths (from the bodies that were not cremated) have been slowly leaked and now exceed 100.

Other governments have stressed that deaths have been with people with severe underlying health problems.

The WHO now confirms that "Approximately half the people who have died from this H1N1 infection have been previously healthy people," adding that this was "one of the observations which has given us the most concern."

ALthough this flu is relatively mild it is clear that it is acting somewhat differently to seasonal flu in that many healthy people have died from this strain.
