I certainly agree with you that voting is a waste of time ---
but, I would say - 'somewhat'. Almost a complete waste - but, not total.
if we think about this situation - the only sensible, sane, human way to vote on a ceasefire would be ----------- yes.
Who wouldn't vote for a ceasefire in a conflict? ----------
But when it comes down to Australia --------- clearly, if the Liberal Party were in government - they would have voted to reject the motion -
Dutton said that clearly.
So, why would Australia under Labor vote to abstain, rather than vote yes?
Well, it's not straight up simple. My guess is that Labor would like to have voted yes - but, - and yes, it is my opinion - that Australia after the moron Morrison years making enemies near home - has in fact created enemies AND it is now felt that we do actually need big brother America on side ------------- in actuality, as opposed to 'just in case'
that means playing along at least somewhat pandering to America - which means not voting yes for a ceasefire, but standing aside and abstaining.
Gutless? - well yes, in my book - but, probably pragmatic.
This is exactly the situations that one gets in when one allows government goofs to go loose at the mouth like Morrisons imbeciles did.
For me - I think the Greens have it right on this ----------- Oz should have done the right thing and voted for a ceasefire -
but, the Greens aren't in power - Labor is and it's hamstrung by some realities at a guess.
In the end - what is happening is that babies and toddlers and small kids who have done nothing wrong at all - are being mutilated and killed.
To me - that's atrocious - and IMO - will come back to bite hard in the future. To me, Israel won't win this, they cannot. They might win this round - but, they'll lose what they wanted - indeed, they have never achieved it ----------- a safe haven.
