dude it not as easy as it sound shorting stock, only mug blame shorters because everything carry risk more so with shorting stocks
I been on both side of the coin, shorting and long
with short you face unlimited risk vs limited risk long position

say you short 100K zip, the maximum you can ever profit is 100K with it going to zero
but on the flip side if it went up 10 times or 100 times you losing millions.
and with long and you put in 100K, the max you lose is 100K with stock going to zero vs potential for making a million etc...

having said that no serious investor is that stupid keep HODL unless you are a gambler, you bailed if your short didn't worked out
and cut your loss around 10-15% and if you in the money with shorting and it went down 30-50% you probably would close it out
and locked in the profit rather risk losing it all and then some more.
