They've been saying 6 months for about a week now. Not a solitary journalist has bothered to ask where the figure comes from. I'm living alone and working from home with my girlfriend living interstate. If I wasn't confident that the government was making the figure up for political purposes, the prospect of effectively being alone for 6 months would cause me a great deal of anxiety. Yet the government purports to have concerns about mental health and oppose the use of terms like "lockdown" because it might cause anxiety. The government will get away with what it can. Journalists should be asking a few more pertinent questions about what basis in science their rhetoric has.
