This deserves a bit more research. Reported in the press Oct 2024.

LG Energy Solution (LGES) has signed a deal to supply electric vehicle (EV) batteries to a Mercedes-Benz affiliate in North America.

The deal will run from 2028 to 2038. What's in the deal?
LGES will supply 50.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of batteries. The batteries will be cylindrical and 46 millimeters in diameter.
The batteries will be produced at LGES's Arizona plant.

    Why is this deal significant?
The 46 mm diameter batteries are expected to increase energy density by five times and output by six times compared to the current 2170 batteries.

The 46 mm batteries are also expected to reduce the risk of thermal runaway. (Bolding and underline by me).

The deal is expected to be in the multi-billion dollar range.

    What's LGES?
LGES is a South Korean battery manufacturer and the world's third-largest EV battery manufacturer. LGES batteries are already used in the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric vehicle model.

    What could this technology be?
Is it Sila or something else?
The sleuths need to do some digging!

A question I keep asking myself.....If MB has been a little burnt putting money into Sila back in 2019 which may not have come off, how quickly will they move on the next technology they get interested in?
