Mercedes (30%), invested in ACC together with Total Energies (25%) and Stellantis (45%) as they all wanted to have greater control over their battery manufacturing & establish supply chains within the EU. All was going well until Total Energies became a problem child. Mercedes and Stellantis wanted to expand into Germany and Italy, but Total Energies didn't. Mercedes and Stellantis wanted to focus on NCM but Total Energies wanted to focus on LFP. Mercedes have said they are committed to ACC and I sense Stellantis is also, however I wouldn't be surprised if Total Energies wants out. I think this is what everyone is waiting on. There is no clear direction for ACC
I see Mercedes as having two options. Continue down the ACC path or set up a supply contract with CATL Germany. They have to get their batteries from somewhere but they want to use their own recipe (eg the CLA will have an 85KWH modular NCM with silicon oxide and less cobalt. I don't know if thats something you can buy off the shelf at CATL/BYD/LG/Panasonic etc).
Mercedes needs to make a decision on their supplier before they consider any commitment to AnteoTech.
