I have always and still do consider Mercedes EV-1. My logic for what it's worth, is Mercedes as I've mentioned before have always been an innovator and there tech trickles down to the more affordable end of market in the following 5 years or so.

Their cars are stupidly heavy. Which means they are less fuel efficient and nimble, and the best engineering in the world will always be limited by physics.

So while it's great to talk about the 500 or so in savings, Mercedes customs are not going to care too much about that, although it helps the companies bottom line.
No, merc is marketed as and is a premium product. It's customers want the best and they want the status of this, marquee brand. Mercedes do know how to market!

So the opportunity for a lighter car to go further charge less often and batteries that cycle 1000 times. Offers another opportunity for differentiation. Leaving their customers without the fear of having cognitive dissonance 5 years later. And where will the tech be in 5 years from now?

That said, I don't care who it is because eventually it will be an industry standard.
All of course in my uniformed speculative opinion.
