If the Federal court had allowed the government the delay that
was requested while an investigation was completed the court
may have been presented with a valid case ilo a "no contest".

ND would then have either been cleared to stay, or chucked out
on his arse, as decided by the court.

The court ruling seems to be considered more valid than a
potentially political one. If you think courts aren't political
then you may be a little naive. Who elected them anyway?

I believe the government would have preferred the court
to take the flak on this.

I believe the legal maneuvering was used to thwart a valid
inquiry into the truth (by ND's legal advisors). Hearing the
truth would be a refreshing and unique experience.
