Because on the phenotypic spectrum of human personality this profession is overrepresented in the lower caste/personality version. Works ok enough when things are so simple they are academic, the moment there is a higher human human component added it gets messy with no way to appeal to these people's conscience for it exists largely as an analogue learned in trial and error over their teenage years to get what they want.
Hence we get these types that often without malice (not that this distinction will register with them emotionally) will walk over anything and anyone to achieve what they consider all about themselves only and theirs alone without a second thought...you are nothing if you cannot be used or useful to them in some way.
Not just talking of doctors...but all higher professions as a matter of course are well and above overrepresented in such clever sillies.....the human race technologically benefits across any averaged decade but the higher social organism that might have existed otherwise remains developmentally stunted for life by such unrelentingly numerous per capita imposts.
The swine flu of last decade saw exactly the same scenario...in quick time Australia's stockpile of antivirals disappeared into our GP's and specialists medicine cabinets....the people be stuffed....actually not even be stuffed they were no longer even considered is the phenotypic display.....think of the TP run....same base personalty exists across both groupings just one is higher functioning form within it and the other the lower functioning form but each in the end will do exactly the same for the aetiology is identical in genetic recombination.
