Look at it from the other way around. This is the last day to buy the shares at a discount. The sale ends at 4:10pm - last chance!

In reality, no-one will ever get caught short. If you have oppies at the end of today and can't convert them, get a loan for 2 weeks, exercise and sell immediately. The interest on the bridging loan would be less than the discount on the options.

There may be a few people in this boat who will need to sell their shares in the next week or two. So the oppie effect may still last another little bit.
